Mitzie Died

2 min read
Well, not yet, but I can tell that she is going to.

Ever since my adopted family and I got back from a trip to Cabo in Baja, California (just last month!), Mitzie has been losing a lot of weight. Now, she cannot stand and can barely breathe. She's just lying there with her eyes wide and staring. When I carried her out of the bathroom (she was in front of the sink) to get her comfortable somewhere else, she peed on me. (Luckily, I was just in my underwear.)

Altho' I feel like I'm handling this better this time, I still don't understand. She's only seven. My other cats that died were all much older. It's strange that she should be dying this soon.

Anyway, looking at her now, lying on a baby blanket on the floor, I can see that it won't be long now. I don't think she's even going to last the hour ...

EDIT 1:

She's gone. It was about 12:30 (12/19/2017), getting out of the car at the vet. She died in my arms ...

EDIT 2:

Actually, I think it's more accurate that she might have passed as I picked her up to leave my place. I know she was definitely still with us before, because when Melissa came in, Mitzie raised her head to look up at my friend. After that, I think, it was all post-mortem. She was doing a lot of apparent gasping, but later, the vet said that was just left-over air escaping.

It's weird to see a creature apparently gasping for breath, even when you know that creature is actually dead ...

EDIT 3: So, my good friend, Dave Hopkins, did this lovely pic of Mitzie, with my fursona, Princess Aurora, and one of his Angel characters, Farrago. It came out lovely, despite a few mistakes.

So, I just got back from having lunch with Melissa and her daughters at Costco. They serve such nice pizza. I ordered two slices, one for now and one for later. The second piece is for dinner.

While we ate, I gave the older girl, Ashley, a get-well card, since she broke her foot last Saturday, playing Soccer. She’s getting around on a scooter, crutches when needed. Her brother wrote “ANDY” on the bottom of her cast. XD

(For those that don’t get it, this is what Woody had on the underside of his foot in “Toy Story”. Zack can be such a card sometimes. XD)

Speaking of cards, her get-well card is Mickey Mouse, saying “Ouch” while holding his foot. Inside, it says, “I hope you’re back on your feet soon.” We all agreed it was just the thing.

Anyway, while we were on our way, Melissa told me the rest of the Kittens’ adoption story.

On Saturday, when Ashley had her accident (she told me she tripped, backing into a small hole in the field), they took the box around. Only one kitten, Little Turtle Two, was adopted. I figured that it was just the one, because people were there to play or watch friends/family play, not adopt a kitten.

Ironic, by the way, since the last Little Turtle “left” us first, when she was involved in an accident and had to be put down. I was so sad, since she was my favorite back then.)

Later (What was it again? The same day, I think), the boys were all adopted.

First boy to go was Patches. Then Joey. In fact, I think Patches and Joey went together. Later, Melissa got a text saying the two little girls who received them just love them! ^_^ It's nice that two of them got to stay together, like my Danny and Sammy ...

Then, the last of all was Bootsie, the ginger with the white feet that was so affectionate to me. (I think that little guy was trying to adopt ME. XD)

It was interesting that the lady that came for him came all the way from Los Angeles – and this is the City of Ontario – so, yeah, she came a long way. A least a couple hour drive.

I’m glad I had a hand in helping make all this happen. I’m glad those four little sweeties have good homes and people that love them as much as I do.

So, I was told this morning that Little Turtle, the Calico, was adopted -- and I'm happy for her.

But now, my friend is talking about just dropping the three boys off at the Pound! OMG, we can't do that! Don't Pounds put pets to sleep if they aren't adopted or claimed in a week!?

... no, ... we can't let that happen to them. Such a betrayal. Or that's how it feels to me, anyway, giving them all that love and affection, just to abandon them in some dirty pound where they'll be killed in a week!?

I know, it must sound like I'm making too much out of it and getting hysterical, but they were my babies for a long time. I have to try to help them find homes.

Anyway, if you live in the Ontario / Upland / Monclair area in Southern California and you are interested in them or have a friend / family member that might like one, please, PM me as soon as you can with your contact info, and I'll forward it to my friend Melissa.

Thank you.

EDIT:

So, I just got back from the store, to two e-mails from Melissa. One read "1 kitten left". The other read that they were all adopted out. I'm really relieved for their sakes ...

... off to their new Forever Homes, I hope.

My best friend and I had lunch together, discussing a bunch of different things, including the babies' futures. She says her family are taking them to the Soccer Field tomorrow when her girls play -- and see if they can unload the little ones off on anyone. The timing is good, too, because tho' they are getting bigger, they are still small enough to be cute as buttons.

So, after a week, this was my last day with them.

I give each a cuddle, as they come out from under the bed, handing each off to my friend, so she can put them in their carrier I set aside on a shelf.

I watch them go, as my friend walks down the stairs -- and can't help but to feel a little loss, a little broken-hearted, ... all kinds of sad. I'm writing this Journal as a way to help let go, when I thought I wasn't getting as attached as I thought. ... At least, I manage not to cry, when my friend and I exchange quick comments over some of the stuff we talked about at lunch that is stuff that's still in development.

I will miss them.

EDIT 1:

Just got an e-mail from my friend. She says Little Turtle was adopted, but the boys are still at there house -- and she thinks she just might drop them off at the Pound. That's scary, because don't pounds just put them to sleep after a certain length of time!? O_O

EDIT 2:

Nvm. Everyone's been adopted as of tonight. ^_^

I wake up to find Joey, walking across the bed towards me. He curls up next to me, with Danny, my big Alpha, near me. While I sleepily pet him, Patches appears, and walks over to get in on it.

I am amazed when the two kittens, starting to play, draw Danny into it by pawing his face. Instead of hissing and pulling away … or … hissing and smacking Joey, Danny just puts up with it. And even starts to groom the two of them!

My big territorial Alpha male, a big daddy-marshmallow! He, like, did a totally turn-around, regarding these babies.

While I marvel at this, Bootsie gets involved, climbing over me to curl up on my shoulder, so that my ear was mashed against his little body. His purring was thunderous! XD

Little Turtle didn’t get involved. I look over to Kitten Castle, the two habitats that stand side-by-side, and I see she’s curled up in the Mail-Box shaped compartment, busily sawing wood. X)

I wanted to get a picture, using my portable mini-reading lamp as a stage-light, but I went to the bathroom first, and by the time I was done, everyone had jumped down and was waiting for me in the kitchen to serve breakfast.

I’m pretty hungry myself. Soon as I post this, I’m gonna go and get something. A piece of that Pumpkin Cake sounds good right now …
